Thumbs up Republic of Georgia

We arrived home this past December from the Republic of Georgia with our beautiful son. He is truly a blessing and he's everything we have ever dreamed of and more!

When we had initially looked into international adoption I was not familiar with the Republic of Georgia as there was not a lot of information out there and few agencies have Georgian programs.

If interested in learning more about adopting from Georgia... read on! I put together some info that is often asked:

Our time frame: From beginning our homestudy and filing our INS paperwork to arriving home with our son was 5 months. I was quite aggressive when it came to getting our paperwork together and our agency was a perfect match to this.

Amount of time it took to receive the referral of our son: The day we became "paper ready" was the day we received the referral paperwork and video.

Age of the children: In the Georgian Program we were involved with, the age of the babies at the time of referral is 6 weeks. Many people travel by the time the babies are 2.5 months old. A BIG plus is that the infants are NOT instutionalized... they remain in foster care until you are able to travel.

Length of time for travel: It is a 1 trip process that takes about 2 weeks to complete.

Cost: ~24K without travel expenses

As I had stated earlier, when we began our adoption process I did not even know about the Republic of Georgia and now I cannot say enough good things about it... the people of Georgia are absolutely incredible!

If you are interested in finding out more about our experience or have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me. We are so fortunate to have our son and would love to help others in similar situations.

Arrow UPDATE

I spoke again with the agency that we used to complete the adoption of our son in 12/02 and as of today they have referrals for 2 infant boys, 1.5 months and 6 months old. I am not affiliated with the agency, I just want to help those of you out there who are searching for your babies. We received the referral for our son the same day I spoke with our agency and we were home with him 1.5 months later... it was incredible. Many people said it was "too good to be true" but things like this do happen and our son is the light of our lives. Please feel free to contact me for more information at maryanns01@yahoo.com
Best wishes,
Mary
