International Adult Adoption
I would like information about adopting a 22 year old foreign student. He has become like a son to my husband and me. We love him so much and want him to be a legal member of our family. He is from Venezuela. He wants to be a member of our family as much as we want him. Can anyone tell me where to begin. Thank you so much in advance for your help. Eileen

The rules that INS has set for adoptionon foreign born children are very strict. First of all,your 22 year old is not considered a child. Second,a child must be under the age of 16 to be granted an exit visa into the US. There are NO exceptions to this at all.The only way INS may make an excetion,if the child is part of a sibling adoption group. Sorry,but this boy does not qualify.

Thank you for responding...Can you tell me how you are so sure about this information? Can you tell me if there is any way for an American citizen to help an immigrant? This young man is already in the United States.
