Vietnamese Adoptee Gathering in October

Dear Fellow Vietnamese Adoptees, Friends, and Families: The staff at the Vietnamese Adoptee Network (VAN) would like to invite you to our first ever national Gathering to be held in Seattle, WA over Columbus Day weekend, October 5th-7th, 2001. We are very excited to offer the opportunity for Vietnamese adoptees, our friends and families to meet and share experiences through our scheduled panels, forums, and presentations. Seattle, WA is home to many current organizations that focus on the Vietnamese-American community. Historically, Seattle, WA along with San Francisco, CA was one of the main drop-off points for those of us that were a part of Operation Babylift. For many of you that will attend the Seattle Gathering, you will perhaps have a chance to revisit one of the first major American cities that you passed through on the way to your adoptive families. Over the course of the weekend we will be celebrating our common heritage, but also exploring current concerns and interests that adoptees face today. We will also feature presentations from other groups and resources that are currently available to our community as well as highlight volunteer, mentoring, and educational opportunities related to Vietnam and Vietnamese adoptee issues. A downloadable and printable information packet is now available online at http://www.van-online.org and you will find a Gathering Registration form, itinerary, transportation options from the airport, a write-up about the Emerald City, and a list of suggested hotel accommodations. Please take the time to fill out all of the necessary information and mail in your response by September 15th, 2001. Also included in this registration packet is a special invitation to attend a fundraising dinner, hosted by another adoptee organization, Asian Adult Adoptees of Washington (AAAW). Please refer to their flyer for registration information. Best wishes to you and your loved ones and we look forward to seeing you in Seattle. If you have any questions please contact kelly@van-online.org Warmest Regards, The Staff at VAN
