where should we adopt from?
My Husband and I are looking to adopt and just getting started... we have 2 girls, one 15 and one 5.. My DH is 42 and I am 38. I would love to adopt 2 girls under 5. we are looking for information on where we could adopt from fairly inexpensively with a fairly straight forward program.... any suggestions on countries or agencies would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Thanks! |

There are very few countries that allow gender selection. Girls are the most sought after in international adoption and the waits for them in countries that do allow gender selection are the longest...many more boys are waiting for adoption. The wait for young sibling girls would be the very long...are you open to exploring waiting children domestically or special needs. The fact that you already have 2 girls may also work against you in requesting girls....others will have more specific ideas on countries. All the best

Hi,
Perhaps you might try Ethiopia - I have heard they are relatively inexpensive and sib groups are available, however, I don't know if you would be able to guarantee two girls. My understanding is that a lot of the agencies no longer allow gender prefs. |

I'm going through the waiting child route as we speak (or I write) and I agree with the Ethiopia thought. There seems to be more flexibility and no shortage of children needing good homes.
I can also say that of the profiles we've seen of the children from Ethiopia, the special needs often have much to do with malnutrition issues. You can check out the different agencies and the countries with which they work and they often have comparative workups that show you the breakdown of requisites, available children and waiting children. Looking around and requesting information packets would be the best place to start, in my opinion. |
