Funds for homestudy
Hi. I am fairly new here. We have recently begun our adoption journey and I have a question. We are due to schedule our homestudy. I was wondering if there were any grants or other resources that helps with these fees? I know once we are homestudy approved we can apply for grants, etc. but is there anything I can do to help with the $2000.00 homestudy fees?
My husband finally warmed up to the idea of bringing our daughter home from China, and I thought that once he agreed, it would be smooth sailing. Boy, was I wrong. He insists we pay cash for each step (and while I understand that concept, it doesn't help my feelings at all). So I am desperately and trying to figure out how to pay for this next step. I appreciate any help. Michele |

It is highly unlikely that you will get an adoption grant for a homestudy. In most cases, the funding sources need to know that you are actually approved to adopt, before they will commit funds.
Now, if you were to choose to adopt domestically, through the foster care system, it is likely that the homestudy would be free or very low cost. Many adoptions from foster care involve almost no fees, and some children even come home with subsidies for their medical care. Sharon

I am sorry you are having a hard time with financial issues. We applied for many grants over the past year and a half and while some just needed an approved homestudy, many now want you to have a child referral. You will have to check with each grant. Also, I wanted to warn you, we found it very hard to get a grant (we got 1-through our agency and only because our son is Special needs) as each place said that they are way behind and just don't have the money :-(
We could not have done it without a little loan as there were times we had to come up with $ pretty quickly. Good luck!!
