Lost Certificates

Good day,

In December of '01, my wife and I adopted an 8 yr old girl from Russia. Since that time, life has brought many changes. During a move, our daughters' original birth and adoption certificate were lost. We have her Social Security card and a Green card.

My question is, would anyone know how to obtain a new original birth and adoption certificate? As it is, I have only a photocopy of her birth certificate.

I've contacted the agency we used, but they were little help.

Thank you.

I just responded to your other post when I found this.

Have you filed USCIS Form G884? That is the form used to get back the packet of paperwork you turned into Immigration when you entered the United States. There is no guarantee as to what is in the packet (there isn't a set list) but there is at least a decent chance there is a BC and adoption decree in there.

I have not filed a G884. In fact, this is the first I had learned of it. I wish others I had presented this question to were half as helpful as you have been. Thanks again. I'll look more into this and PM you if I have any more questions.

The G884 returned both bc and ac to us from our Russian adoptions...however, they were not the copies with full notaries (that Z stamp that they are supposed to have)
I would also check with the Russian Embassey and see if they can direct you to the correct regional office...I know it's possible to get new copies, but hard...I can look through my paperwork, becasue I think I got an address one time of where to contact for missing papers. If you haven't already, please post this on the Russian board as others there have gone through missing stuff!
