What countries allow single women to adopt (that aren't too expensive)?

With so many countries no longer allowing singles to adopt, can anyone suggest countries that do? I think Eastern European adoptions are beyond the budget - any other countries that are under, say, $30,000?

Thanks!

US

Foster to adopt is open to singles and can be close to no cost for the adoptive parents. Other than that, the only countries I know of are Eastern European/Central Asian, or Russia.

Nowadays, its VERY difficult for single women to adopt infants under 12 months old. Ethiopia can still be a possibility for some but in my experience most of the agencys that are still accepting singles have long wait times (about 12-24 months).

You never did mention your age but if your age 30 and up India maybe an option for you. The youngest children are about 18 months and up by the time they are home. The total cost is about 20-25K. Two other countries are Haiti and Nepal but you must be ages 35 and up in order to adopt. In Nepal the children are ages 10 months and up by the time they come home and in Haiti most of the children are ages two and up at homecoming.

Ethiopia is open to singles - and if you have an ethical agency that wait should be the same for you as it is for couples...

Kazakhstan also accepts singles - but is pricey.

Jamaica accepts singles, and so does Vietnam - but it opens and closes so not sure it is the best bet.

Good luck!

Glad to see another single woman adopting internationally! I've just started on the process, so let me know if you'd like to PM to get to know each other better and share our experience!

There are DEFINITELY agencies out there willing to work with singles. You just have to do the research to find them.

Russia! I adopted twins from there in April of '08. The agency fees are typical of other countries but travel is expensive. Russia requires two visits and the 2nd visit can be at least two to four weeks.

Good luck!

Bulgaria is under 30,000$ and you can adopt if you are single. check out Tree of Life Adoption Center, All God's Children and Holt. Those seem to be the best for Bulgaria.
