Hi Everyone
My husband and I have just decided to move forward with adopting a little girl from China I know they have an age requirment of 30.I'm 28 and my DH is 32 and we have two bio boys ages 5 and 2. Since the process takes over two years would we be able to begin the paperwork now? Thanks |

The short answer is "no".
The China Center for Adoption Affairs (CCAA), which assigns all the children, will not log in a dossier until both spouses reach the age of 30. If you prepare a dossier now, your documents -- for example, your homestudy, USCIS clearance, fingerprints, etc. -- will expire before you can submit them to the CCAA, and you will need to redo them. Start working on your dossier a couple of months before you turn 30, so that everything can be submitted to China on your 30th birthday. And please remember that things change in the world of adoption. Two years from now, China may have very different adoption rules and requirements. With the increase in adoption of healthy infants by Chinese citizens, and the purported decrease in abandonments, it may well be that the program becomes largely one that places older children and kids with special needs. So keep following developments through sites like this one, and also research some other countries that might be potential alternatives. Sharon

Have you considered Korea? Depending on the agency, you can request a girl because you already have 2 boys.
Korea is a wonderful place to adopt from. We have a son from Korea, and would have gone back in a heartbeat, but we are too old now! I'm not trying to discourage you from China, but Sharon is right - alot can happen in 2 years, PLUS the backlog of families is such that it's taking people 3-4 years now to adopt, from the time their dossier goes in. If you want any info on Korean adoptions, just PM me. |
