Bulgaria or Azerbaijan ?

As a single 48 year old - 5 year old daughter from Guatemala - I am narrowing my choice for a second to Bulgaria or Azerbaijan. Any comments either way? . I am also narrowing my agency choices to Adoption Avenues in Oregon or Kids to Adopt. If anyone has any comments on these agencies - I would appreciate the input in a PM.
Thanks

Hi,

I would be cautious about Azerbaijan right now. First, the State department warns that the process there is unclear. Second, these adoptions have to be processed through the US embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia. I would doubt that you could count on stability in Georgia, with all that has been happening lately there (Russia has basically invaded Georgia last week and even bombed Tbilisi International airport).

Bulgaria or Azerbaijan?

Hello,
If I were in your shoes I would choose Bulgaria, as the country is now committed to finding homes for its orphaned children. For several years children were basically trapped in the system with no hopes for a family of their own, however this has Changed! the new minister of adoptions in Bulgaria is a wonderful woman (who was raised for part of her childhood in a Bulgarian orphanage) Children of all ages are available for adoption and are being referred now! The vast majority of children in Bulgaria's orphanages are Roma (Gypsy ) . The Gypsy people are very discriminated against in Eastern Europe, These children have little chance of being adopted within Bulgaria because of the prejudice. Smile Azerbaijan

Hello!

I am not sure of your choice but my Husband and I are choosing to adopt from Azerbaijan over Bulgaria, we have been told that Azerbaijan is stable right now, I have also been told that in order to adopt from Bulgaria in a timely mannor that they do not take first come first serve, if you are not between 25-35 married with 1 or less children that your time frame is up to 3 years! Things are moving quicker now but they have dossiers that they need to process from up to 3 years ago still. We have been told by our agency (Adoption Ark) that Azerbaijan is a 4-6 month wait for a referral. I am interested to hear what you have found out!

best of luck to you!

Jessica

Make sure you do you research on the background of these kids. Although there is nothing wrong with this, if you are looking for a healthy child, I have been told that alot of children come home with special needs .
