Advice needed on what to do please
I have a friend in Mexcio (im from the UK) who has a pregnant friend who is willing to let my husband and i adopt the child when it is born.
Do we still need to go through the same adoption procedures and red tape as prospective international adoptive parents would if adopting from a Mexican orphanage? Or will it be easier? Any and all advice would be much appreciated Thanks in advance for your help. GaynorB Last edited by GaynorB : 06-27-2008 at 12:34 PM. |

You would have to comply with all of the adoption laws of your own country and of Mexico. In addition, you would have to comply with the laws of the particular Mexican state in which the child is residing. Moreover, if your country has any immigration laws concerning adopted children, you would have to comply with those laws. Some of these laws "may" differentiate between relative and non-relative adoptions, but most will not.
Obviously, you would not have to comply with any orphanage rules. You would have to use an adoption agency ONLY if your country or Mexico requires it; however, you would need a homestudy conducted in your country by a provider authorized to do them. Protecting vulnerable children is important to all countries. As a result, there are usually lots of requirements that must be satisfied before a child can be placed with new parents, whether or not they are related.

Many thanks for the expansive reply.
The lady in question is happy for my husband to be on the birth certificate if it will make things easier to bring the child to the UK The biological father is unknown and she has no idea, interest, or even way of knowing the name of which of her recent many "one night stands". it could be. What you are proposing is illegal and unethical. In the U.S., it would be called visa fraud, a federal crime.
Go through the adoption process, for the sake of the child. Make sure that everything is done legally and ethically. Sharon
