Country Question
Hi, my husband and I have a daughter adopted from Guatemala who came home in 2004. We are in the Domestic adoption process right now but are wondering if we should go the International route again. I know that Guatemala is closed right now but what countries are you working with right now and how are things going? What agency are you using as well and have you been happy with them. Trying to see what our options would be. Please PM me with agencies.

You might consider Colombia if you decide to adopt internationally again, especially since your daughter is Hispanic. Colombia has been doing international adoptions for over 30 years and has a very stable program. Infants, older children, special needs, and sibling groups are available. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

We are adopting from Russia, and so far the process has been very smooth (barring the occasional paperchase glitch). From application to first trip was seven months. We traveled and met both children, and just returned home this week. We will go back in a few months for court to legally adopt them. The downfall is that it requires time - we will be making three trips, although you can do it in two trips, with the second lasting anywhere from 21-28 days. Russia is a melting pot like the U.S. and you can probably find a darker hair/eyed child if you would like both children to feel like they are related.
Best of luck to you!
