Update on our failed adoption

Late last year my husband and I traveled to Peru to adopt a five year old child, but we were unable to complete the adoption. I've recieved a few PM's asking what's happening, and I apologize for not responding, but there's really no news.

First, thank you to all of you who have reached out. When going through something like this, a lot of things happen that leave you feeling like nobody really cares, so I'm really grateful to know there are people who care.

Here's the bottom line. I am an MS patient. Our agency and it's contracted attorneys were supposed to clear that with Peru before taking us on as clients. They did not. My condition was never disclosed to Peru. When we got down to Peru, I became over tired, suffered vertigo and needed rest. The adoption facilitators refused to come off of their schedule and would not allow me to rest. They instead took me to a back alley doctor and paid him for a fake diagnosis to try to explain away my condition. As some of you know, the adoption failed and we were sent home after bonding with our child for a week.

We instructed our agency and its facilitators repeatedly to disclose my MS, but they refused. We finally decided to cut them out of the process and began a direct dialogue with Peru. Peru was initially very interested in helping us complete the adoption, but when I disclosed my MS, the dialogue stopped. Peru will now only tell us that they are sending us a letter regarding our case.

We are now filing complaints against our adoption agency with every entity we can think of. We've not been offered a refund or any remedy of any kind. And while we remain faithful that our family will ultimately be okay, we have no reason to believe at this point that Jennifer is going to be a part of our family.

I'm sorry I've been so slow to update everyone, and thank you again for your thoughts and prayers.

I just wanted to say how very sorry I am for all that you have been through. You followed every step they asked of you and my heart just breaks that after bonding with your child, you were sent home. I cannot begin to imagine that feeling, but did want to say I was sorry, and I agree with your pursuit of justice with the agency who wronged. you.

All the best.
Jessi
