Home study expires?

I've heard talk of people having to update thier home study. How long does one last?

I believe it varies by state.

We live in NY & we had to update ours after a year for our I-171H exension (we had switched from China to Vietnam which is why the timeline was so long). Updating it wasn't too difficult. We had to have a quick medical letter from our doctor saying we were still in good health & we had another home visit. The update home visit was MUCH quicker than the initial one. The caseworker didn't even really look around much (and after I cleaned the place like a maniac...), just sat with us & went over the stuff we'd said the first time to make sure that we hadn't had any major changes such as a new family member, lost job, major illness, etc., etc.
