Hello all, I am new here and am trying to get the word out on a terrible ordeal my family is going through right now with our adoption. My wife has been stuck in China with our daughter who was officially adopted by our family on Nov.6 according to the Chinese gov't... While they were gone our I-600a was denied (we had already been approved but had to reapply with new fingerprints)... The reason for the denial was becuase I was arrested for misdemeanor DUI last year... I completed everything the court asked, we got a judge to revoke my unsupervised probation, I had a positive psychological testing and evaulation and our adoption agency continues to approve us but they have denied our case... We are appealing and trying to get a miracle to bring them both home ASAP... We're desparate and devastated, our family of 4 will be separated for not just Thanksgiving but now Christmas too... Please HELP!

I know how hard this must be for you.

Unfortunately, the USCIS has always been extremely strict with regard to drug and alcohol offenses. Recent DUIs are almost always a problem.

I wish you well on your appeals of your denial. You may well want to get a good immigration attorney to go to bat for you. He/she will know the best way to proceed.

yes we have a good immigration attorney who is very knowledgable and familiar with the CIS... a colleague of hers is a former high level director of CIS and is writing a letter on our behalf... she apparently wrote some of the regulation they use... but we just trying to get media attention and buzz about our case so it goes fast and we finally get approved...
