We have been told that that the only country we can adopt from as an open lesbian couple is the USA (we are British and UK based). This is fin as we both have work and frienship links with America. But does anyone have any information about oher countries? We cannot concal our relationship has we have a Civil Partnership.

Unfortunately I don't believe there are any countries that currently allow lesbians to adopt. As you know, you can perform a domestic adoption in the US, but I'm not even sure if you can as a Brit.

Since I am a "google-maniac" I found a website ilga.org that should contain some information that may be useful to you. I hope it helps or possibly some of the senior members may have more information for you.

We have "out" friends currently adopting from Brazil. What they have learned is they will be required to adopt a sibling group of 2 or more to proceed. This is the only country they have found. We have another couple who we've met at a couple of adoption picnics who have just adopted their second healthy toddler through US foster care.

Thankyou lishop! We are progressing with adoption from the US but may be hindered by the USA joining the Hague Convention (as all foreign adoptions from America will have to publicised in order to attract alternative US-based parents) so it is great to know that there is another country open to us.
