Adoption query (Please do answer)

Hi,
I want to adopt a child of Indian origin probably a baby girl. I am very well educated, single, 26 years old woman. I earn enough money to take proper care of the baby and I work at a University which will provide proper health care for the baby. I am on student visa and a resident of India. I want to know how can I adopt a child. I am very caring and the baby I would adopt will mean a world to me. Please guide me. I will be very thankful.
Thankyou!
Gagan

The issue is not whether you could adopt an Indian child. You probably could, especially since you are an Indian citizen, although you would have to wait till you are 30, since India will not place a child with anyone younger.

The issue is whether you could bring the child to the U.S. to live with you, if you are still in the U.S. on a student visa at that time. Unfortunately, the U.S. government will NOT give an adoption visa to a child unless at least one parent is a U.S. citizen. This is spelled out in the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act, and you will not be able to get around it.

You would probably have to return to India, adopt your child, live with him/her there for a couple of years, and then apply for visas for both of you to enter the U.S.

The best help i can offer you is to tell you that you have to refer to the laws and programs of adoption in the country that you are a citizen.
