I am an American woman and my husband is Turkish. We are thinking about adopting from Turkey (we live in the USA) and since it is not one of the "popular" international adioption countries, it is rather difficult to get information about the process. Anyone with any help or experience or advice for me would be great to hear from.
Thank you and good luck to you all. KitDem |

The best place to start your search is on the U.S. State Department website, where there is a discussion of Turkish adoption and why it is very difficult for American families. Here is the web address: Intercountry Adoption Turkey

We attempted to adopt from Turkey almost 2 years ago. My husband also is Turkish and there are many children available. We went through the whole process with an agency in DC (I can PM you the name) which handles Turkish adoptions. We finally got to top of the waiting list for the ophanage in Turkey and then found out from the State Department, they would not issue a visa. According to the State Dept because Turkey only gives intially provisional custody until the adoption is finalized after a one or two year waiting period IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO ADOPT unless you finalize your adoption in Turkey and they told us that takes 2 years of living with the child in Turkey.
This just did not work for us so we recently adopted from Guatemala...we are very happy but it would have made some sense culturally and language wise to be able to adopt for Turkey....I think Turks in Germany may have am easier time.

Turkish Adoption
Hi my name is Emily. I too want to adopt a Turkish child. My dad is Turkish born and raised while I was born here in America. I have been reading about how hard it was to adopt in Turkey, almost impossible unless you move there for a year. I have however seen that there is a large Turkish population in Bulgaria, about 10% of the population. Turks are looked down on there and therefore easier to adopt than ethnic Bulgarians. Its something to consider. They are the same bloodline as the Turks in Turkey.
