international adoption

My husband and I are wondering if anyone has adopted from the Philippines. We have a good friend who is orginally from there and her sister recently gave birth to her fourth child. She is alone and unable to care for baby. They have asked if we would adopt, but we have no info on Filipine adoption. Any help greatly appreciated!! We have been trying to adopt domestic for over two years

The U.S. State Department website is a good place to start regarding international adoption, and there is also a page regarding adopting from the Philippines.

Good luck!

Hello,
Dh and I were originally going to adopt from the Philippines being he is Filipino. We eventually changed countries because it was really difficult to adopt in a reasonable amount of time or get an infant with myself being American. We were told by a couple of agencies that the Filipine government wants a two year waiting period to make sure that there aren't Filipino adoptive parents for the child. Being that in your situation you will have an identified child you probably have more options. You should contact agencies or lawyers that work with the Philippines and tell them your particular situation and see what they have to say. I know with relative adoptions from the Philippines it is much easier. Just make sure that everything you do is legal. I don't know how many times our Filipino relatives have suggested this lawyer or that in the Philippines and said how cheap it would be with bribes here and there. We refused to go that route.
Good luck,
Cindy
