Check into adopting from Guatemala. We're going through the process right now and according to my agency there is pretty much zero wait for a referral of a healthy baby boy. Almost all of the children go directly into private foster care after birth and from everything I have heard/read the foster moms are wonderful, and the medical care the children receive is top notch. You will probably have a little info on the medical of the mother. Most children coming home are between 5 and 10 months, a lot just depends on how your case moves through the system. I encourage you to really research the agency you choose. GOOD LUCK!

Another Guate-mama here. We signed with our agency in Jan.05 - had no wait for referral, fostered her myself in Guatemala and had her home at 3 1/2 months.
Having been through it - and seeing others go through it - I firmly believe that your baby finds you. You'll make the decision and find your baby when everything is just right.
Best of luck!!

I have heard from other posters, in the chat part of it, on this very forum that it has taken a long time. It may be that it takes very little time for most people. Notice, I was not claiming that it takes years for everyone...

I'm not sure where you "heard" that Guatemala has problems, but assuming a 6-9 month wait to bring a child home is average in Guatemala.

Speculation probably won't help the original poster.
