Hi there,
We are living outside Vancouver, BC. Although we are still a little ways away from starting the adoption process, I am very interested in how it works and what the options are. After doing some research I thought that living in BC we have to go through a BC agency, is this correct?? Or can we use any (Canadian) agency? If so, I am particularly interested in Eastern Europe, does anyone have any advice for me re the agency? Thanks a lot! |

Hi Grobi,
I am also living in Vancouver, BC and we just chose the agency and started our process to adopt! We were advised to carefully select an agency in our province, as the rules are different for each province's legislation on adoption. Thankfully the fees are regulated in Canada, so each agency must charge very close to the same as the others. If you feel very comfortable with an agency that doesn't facilitate adoptions from the countries you may be interested in adoptiong from, you can use a facilitator from another province to complete the paperwork and travel with. This is a common practice from what we have heard. We will be using CAFAC from Manitoba to facilitate our Ethiopian adoption. I hope this helps! Cheers, Sarah. |

adopting in BC
Hello grobi- we live in abbotsford and have adopted three times from the philippines. We used Hope services which is a non profit org. they handle all kinds of international adoptions. they are very good. i would suggest getting started well before you are actually thinking you are ready, as the process takes along time. there are seminars you attend to get more informed about the diffrerent countries requirements & costs etc. . As well ,getting all the required documents, police checks, health checks etc. take time not to mention the meetings with your social worker for your homestudy. You have alot of work ahead of you, but of course it's well worth it when you get to bring your child home! Good luck

We used the Adoption Centre in Kelowna for this adoption. We are adopting from Liberia. Well - I should say that we have adopted from Liberia, my husband is there with our child completing the immigration process.
