Health Care and the Internationally Adopted child

Dear friends

Dr. Alla Gordina of Global Pediatrics and I have been communicating about a variety of issues regarding health care and internationally adopted children.

Dr Gordina would like to gather information about situations where:

1) during or after adoption, families were left unassisted with a sick child in the country of origin
2) children were not evaluated properly after arrival in the new home county (US, Canada, etc)
3) children were denied appropriate evaluations because of insurance coverage or payments, inappropriate coding, etc.
4) Other

Dr Gordina is looking to help the medical profession and adoption agencies improve their service to IA families. She would like to produce a report which shows the situations where the medical care could be improved.
The situations could range from very severe to minor, for example:

- a child who is extremely or significantly sick in country and you don't know how to contact a doctor

- your child wasn't tested for Giardia when you arrived in the US

- your child wasn't tested for TB when you arrived, or 6-9 months after arrival, or was tested positive and no meds were prescribed

- scabies was not identified

- health care coverage was denied for appropriate tests and evaluations.

- or any other problem you thought should have been addressed, but was not addressed at all, was addressed late, or incompletely.

Please Private Message me to reply

It would be most helpful to have your names along with your comments. Rest assured, names will not be included with the final report.

Thanks for all the replies!
We should have listed dental issues in our first post.. so if you have had dental issues, please let us know that as well.
