Homestudy/financial question

My husband and I have been lucky enough to receive a large inheritance a few years past and took a few years off of work. I will not be going back to work and my husband just started his job as a Realtor about 4 months ago and has only had 2 sales since.

Do they look at trusts/stock portfolios for sources of income too, or will we have troubles since we haven't been "employeed" for the past few years? We do own our home outright, as well as our vehicles and only have a small amount of debt.

Just wondering if this will hurt us in anyway and if anyone has had any experience with this. We are still considering and not in the ready to sign stage yet, so we can wait a year if we have to, but I would like to apply sooner if possible.

Thanks for any info.

Amanda

Income

Amanda, my social worker looked at all of my income and financial assets, including 401K etc. You should be fine. I think your husband having a job will help with the international aspect, because you can say he is employed.

Hi Amanda,
Your overall financials sound great - compared to most Americans. As part of the homestudy, you'll have to provide an employment letter. It's good that you husband is employed now, even if to show another country your ability to work and provide for the family (even though it may not be necessary to work right now.) So I'd say, he should keep his job for the time being.

Good luck.
