Smile need info regarding Cambodia adoptions

Hello everyone!

My hubby and I are looking into adopting internationally and would love to hear information on websites and other resources on adopting from Cambodia.

Any ideas on requirements, fees and timelines would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Tere and Dario

If you are in the U.S., please be aware that Cambodian adoption has been closed to Americans since 2002. Unfortunately, there is no indication that it will reopen any time soon.

Thanks for your quick reply and the valuable information ... I am not in the US (I live in Puerto Rico) but are a US citizen so it would apply.

Any advice on which country would be a good choice for a good adoption?

Best
Tere

I would say it totally depends on your needs. If you can assess what you are looking for (age, gender, special needs?, race, your ability to travel, how long you can be gone)...then research a few places. Or post here once you know what you are hoping for.

I'm in the Russia program and would be happy to answer any questions you have. But, I know there are a lot of GREAT programs out there with different parameters.

There is no country that is "right" for everyone.

You may qualify for certain countries, but not for others, based on factors such as your age, your marital status, and so on.

And you may prefer certain countries, because they are most likely to have children you feel you can parent, because of their age, gender, health status, etc.

You may also prefer certain countries because of factors such as the stability of the process, the time frame, the length of travel or availability of escort, and even the total fees.

Perhaps if you tell us a bit about yourself, we can give you some suggestions. However, nothing beats doing homework. Begin reading up on country requirements, using sources like the U.S. State Department website, agency websites, and so on.

Where do you live? The US and UK wont permit adoptions from Cambodia but if you live elsewhere like Quebec or have other citizenship, I could put you in touch with someone who has direct contacts with an orphanage in Cambodia, it would be an independent adoption, no agency, but amazingly low costs!
