Marriage license question
Help!......You guys are SO smart and helpful out there...
My husband and I were married in Mexico and received only one copy of our marriage license. I have been trying to find out how to get other copies, but my spanish leaves a lot to be desired so I can't go to Yahoo international.... My question is whether we can use the one copy of our license and just use certified copies of it? Or, does anyone know how we can get additional copies from Mexico? Your help is GREATLY appreciated. (I've spent DAYS looking on the internet trying to find this...) Amy (adopting from Russia!) |

Hi,
As far as I know, you have to have original copies for your homestudy, your adoption agency, and one for them to send to the country. You could try calling your county office, and they should be able to lead you in the right direction on how to obtain more. Good luck! Jen |

Hi,
We are going to get one original certificate and make copies of it and then have those copies notarized. Our agency said that this would be fine. Hope that helps. Chloe |

ours is from Jamaica!
I feel for ya! We had to obtain ours from Jamaica (we had several copies, but our agency told us that China wants recent copies like within the last year). Thank God for the internet- I was able to locate the government branch that handles marriage licenses (you could even put in a request online). What we had to do as well is type out an attestation that this was a certified copy of our marriage license and have that notarized (it'll also get a state seal). It's been an experience!

You may want to check with a nearby Mexican Consulate within the United States (there must be dozens of them). We were married in Japan and the Japanese Consulate in Denver provided us an official marriage certificate with translation.

We were married in St. Lucia and we just made copies had them notarized for the homestudy and notarized and apostilled for the dossier.

I would check with your agency first. My husband and I were married in Puerto Rico and received only ONE certificate. On our first adoption, we used a copy with a notarized statement saying it was a true copy. This time, we are doing the same! Good luck!
