Samoa Adoptions

Hi,

There was another post on the LDS page about Polynesian Adoptions. Here is what it said...

MARSHALL ISLANDS:
Also look into Marshall Islands although I've heard things are changing there. They used to take the birth mothers to Hawaii and do the adoptions there and now they can't do that anymore so it's an Int'l adoption? or something like that.

Remember there's a $10,000 tax credit so don't let the costs of Int'l scare you off, you'll get $10,000 back.

Good luck,
I hope you'll have a new little sweetie in your home soon!

Bad Press?

Hello,

I have read some negative things about focus on the children. We are looking to adopt from samoa. Please let us know first hand what experience you are having with this agency. How long have you been trying to adopt from Samoa and how do we get started.

Thank you,
Kellie

Kellie..

We never successfulluy adopted from Samoa and we have several friends who have recently been caught up in slowdown's/halts in Samoa adoption (by both agencies that adopt out of Samoa).. As far as I know they are not even taking any more families for that area until those that are already on thsi list and have referrals get the kids home.

I think both agencies have both good and bad stories, but are on the whole good to work with.. but the Somoan government has put a halt to things for now.

First, let me suggest that you read the "Samoa Adoption Notice" on the website of the U.S. State Department. To see it, go to http://travel.state.gov. Click on "Children and Family" at the top of the page. Then click on "Important Notices" on the left side of the page.

As you will see, it says that delays in the adoption process for Samoa are occurring, because the U.S. is investigating each adoption case to ensure that all of the adoptions meet the requirements of U.S. law. The person doing the investigation, which involves interviewing the birthmother of the child to be adopted, among other things, is based in New Zealand. This person cannot visit Samoa frequently, so investigations may not be completed promptly.

In terms of finding a licensed, nonprofit agency with which to work, there are very few. Put the term "adoption agencies placing children from Samoa" into your browser, and you'll find them. But be very careful to check them out carefully, or you could wind up being unable to bring home a child.
