Ukraine Adoption Info.

My husband and I are thinking of adopting an older child from Ukraine, about 9 yrs. old. Has anyone out there been through the process of adopting an older child from Ukraine. I could use any information you may have to help me.

Thank you,

Raquel

I have adopted 3 school agers from Ukraine and am in the process of returning for #4. They were not as old as you are indicating. Mine were adopted at 5.6yo, 6.6yo, and 6.9yo.

Feel free to ask away.

Ukraine adoption

Thanks for responding. Did you use an agency or independent? We're excited to get started but a bit nervous.

Congratulations on your adoptions and also on child #4.

You could email me anytime.

How did you get your agency to expedite the process? That's wonderful. How old is your child that you're adopting from Ukraine? I just called Home Study and they are putting an application in the mail to us.

Thanks for your reply.

My angency has the program, fo a slight fee, and that also includes your hotel food and travel while there. You will be taken care much differently. You can email me at NEICEY330@aol... and I will give you the Agency and their info... I am not on here to advertise, but it doesn't hurt to talk to them and hear the program!

Good luck.

I am new to adoption and have a question about adopting an older child 3-5 y.o.

I am worried that because they may have been in an orphanage for 3-5 years they may suffer from emotional/psychological problems.

Any words of wisdom are welcome!

Laurie

Hi Laurie,

What I've read in books is it's best to take the child to counseling to help them overcome their experiences at the orphanage. I'm just getting started so I don't know all the answers. I'm in the same boat as you.

Good luck.
