Keeping journals

When my wife Krista and I began our 25-day adoption journey to Kazakhstan last November, we knew we wanted a tangible reminder of everything that happened. So she kept a daily audio log and I kept written journal entries, often staying up until 3 a.m. on the bathroom floor of our host family's apartment so as not to disturb her! We're glad we did this, and I just turned our experience into a full-length book: "Hello, Aibek: A Journey of International Adoption." It was just published and it's been gratifying to hear the response of other adoptive parents who have read it. Anyone else keep a journal? I just heard one tip I wish I had known then: ask the primary caregivers at the orphanage to write messages to your child!

Keeping Journals

My second Daughter's Adoption from India. Alot of the correspondence was in e-mail.

The two most awesome parts that I felt were the e-mails from the Mom who introduced me to my Daughter gave me the opportunity to get to know what my Daughter was like before hand without the Agency Terminology! It made the Adoption seem more real.

The part that you missed the Caregiver Story and other Children. Lauren has a Speech and Hearing impairments. The Caregiver described her as very illustrated because of this!

I wait for the day when the 2 Daughters will be able to explain to each other their past experiences!
