question on I-600A form

I see that copies of birth & marriage certificates are supposed to be sent with the form. It doesn't specify certified or apostilled or whatever--just says copies. Are regular copies really acceptable? I am new...just downloaded the form and making calls about the homestudy.

Thanks for any help.
Julie

Just to be safe...

I haven't heard of a country who didn't require certified copies of birth and marraige certificates. I would definately send certified copies just to be on the safe side and save time down the road. Better to have something "overdone" than not done to the requirements of your country!

I went to INS in person to do my I600A form. I went to city hall and got a copy of my birth certificate - I'm not married. It cost me $5, INS made a photo copy and gave me back the original.

ins does not require originals of your birth or marriage certs any longer. a copy is just fine. but you do need to have a copy in your own records in case they ask to see it.

we were asked to send copies and a brief letter (signed) stating that if needed we could produce the originals.

hope that helps.

INS 600A

Copies are fine for the INS - however, you will need orginals for passports ( they send them back), and your dossier..
