Question china adoption

Anyone have any experiences or insights on the subject of adopting as older parents?
My husband and I are on the very front end of international adoption, probably China, maybe Guatemala. We don't have any other children, I am 49 and my husband is 44.
I wish that we were younger but we just had our 12th anniversary, and I guess I just never gave up on the possibility of getting pregnant until just now. I want as young a child as possible.

When I was "only" 51, ...

... I adopted my wonderful daughter from China. She was 18.5 months old at the time.

I am now 58 -- soon to be 59. My daughter is now 8.5 years old, and will turn nine in October. We are having a grand time.

I would be delighted to talk with you about any aspect of China adoption or about parenting an adopted child as an older parent. Please feel free to ask questions either on this bulletin board or via private message.

china baby

thank you for the positive words.

when you first brought your daughter home was it at all difficult to get adjusted. I mean obviously there must be an adjustment period but being older I guess I'm concerned as my husband and I both work. Although I'm hoping I may get to take a 1/2 year sabbatical from my job.

In general are the babies in China small for their age?
How long did your adoption take?
did it go well ?
how long did you stay in China? How was your stay?

thank you again
