Hi,
My husband and I are in the process of adopting from China. The process has been fairly straight forward but the time table depends on many things. The homestudy and paperchasing part generaly takes 8 months (although we were closer to a year and others have gone higher and lower). We had our paperwork logged in China (dtc) in feb. We should be getting our referral in Aug or Sept. That is incredably fast compared to the 8-10 months we were told it would take and the 15-18 months it took just a couple of years ago. When we have the referral in hand we will then travel to get our daughter 4-6 weeks latter and stay in China 10-14 days. If you do a forum jump to "China adoptions you will find much more information. Good Luck to you in this decision. You are never to old to give a child love just make yourself as informed about everything that you can.

I adopted my wonderful daughter ...

... from China. She was 18.5 months old then, and is 8.5 years old now. I was a youngster of 51 then, and am 58 now. I am a single Mom.

I'd be delighted to talk with you, either on this board or privately, about any questions you may have.

Talking Waiting for our daughter

My husband and I are waiitng for our paperwork to be authenicated. Our agency is handleing that for us. We have been married for 3 years and are so excited, We have chosen a name for her, and to us she is as real as can be even though we have not yet set eyes on her or don't even know if she is born yet! It's hard to be patient, but you have to keep thinking that it will all be worth it in the end.

Adoption from china

My husband and I are adopting for China. We are DTC March, so therefore we should be getting our referral hopefully on Sept 1. When we started this process and investigation, we were thinking 8 to 10 months wait. China has made a effort ( and proven it) they want the time of dossier in to time of referral to be 6 months. That is awsome! We have had not one problem thus far, things have been outlined for us all the way. No surprises noted. I would be glad to give you a agency referral or any info privately.
Goodluck

china adoption

Hi all,
we are very close to being DTC. We are sooo excited, we are an older couple and this weill be our first child together,we have 4 grown children and a couple young grandchildren. We cant wait. China seems so straight forward, this is the way it is and thats all thre is to it. Seems to me very fair. The health and well being of the children sems to be very good considering all the children have been thru and we cant wait to get there to get our little girl.
So far,all our paperwork has gone very smoothly. One small bump with the notary for a couple documents that we had to get started all over again but thats done and hoping the travling notary will come this week to finish that. Then they are all off to Sacramento for authentication. The to China consulate. We are finding that everyone will do flips for you when they find out that you are adopting. In fact, secty of state in sacto asks that you bring all the papers and sit and wait for them, takes about an hr.
good luck on your choice to adopt from where ver. If you are still questionong China do some reading on just what all goes on over there. We aare doing just that,
Beth

We are in homestudy process. Everything has moved quickly and we are expecting dtc by October. We started mid July. Our homstudy agency and adoption agency are right on top of things and pushing us along. It's amazing. We live in southern California and I called the INS office in Los Angeles regarding our I600a and they actually returned mycall!!!! Amazing. They actually have a separate number specifically for adoptions. We can walk in our I600A application and homestudy and get fingerprinted right there. Our Secretary of State office is about an hour and half from us in San Diego so we can walk that in also. Things are moving much faster than we thought.

Best of luck. PS: We are in our 40's.
