Question looking for a good tale of Taiwan-older children-siblings- Please

Good Day,

We are hoping to adopt from Taiwan, yet have questions that maybe someone can address. Someone who has been to Taiwan and seen the conditions, the homes, the children, the way things go on there.

We have a son, 9 years old and we would love to have one or two more children. We feel that Taiwan is likly the best program out there for us, and yet it is one that we have so little understanding of. In all the other places we've looked, all the reasons for adoptions, conditions of the birthmothers, details with the children are understood. We are working with Commaonwealth out of Pitt, PA. and that's all well and good. I will ask them too, all these questions, yet getting it all from a family in our sort of situation is really a far better feeling.

How are the children in Tawian doing, how do they live? Can we meet the birth mother, birth family? Can we remain in contact with them? We were told that the mothers are under very good care while expecting and that the do well in every way during that time. We were told that a mother will select us as a family she would like her child to go and live with. When it's an older child, is that still true? SO is the child and mother together while waiting? How many care takers to children are there normally when speaking of Taiwan. We were also told that there are four children's homes that we may get a referal from, but that they are very much like each other and that the children in each home were living much in the same way. That condidtions were the same. Is that really the case? I guess it would be.

If you have a been there and done that as they say, please do share your tale with us.

ALSO...We worry that if we can't remain in touch with the birth family that our new child (or children) will always have far more questions than we have answers for. Also, I would want the options as a birthmother and as an adoptee to be able to stay in touch with my family members. Is that an option we would really have throught Taiwan, or am I dreaming that it is?

So if the children and the birthmothers are still together, how is adpoting an older child going to work? Do the birthmothers just stay on with the children for a while and then just maybe visit them soemtimes????? How is it all working out? Why do these children end up for adoption in the first place? Is it due to the age of the mother, being so young? Is it financial, social because she is unwed? Is it all these things?

Are the children really cared for as well as we have been informed? I know we have a lot of questions...but for this there is no book. We write it here. And thanks for your help in doing that work.

Any info would be a blessing. Please tell your tale and how it all came together for you. Let us know what to expect and how you saw things in Tawian.

Thank you so much in advance,

Shaneena
