Adoptee Searching - Born 24 September 1961 - Milan ITALY

I am looking for my birth family....
At birth I weighted 2.3 Kg (5 lb.) since I was born 26 days premature at, 10 PM on September 24, 1961 at the Macedonio Melloni Hospital in Milan, Italy. I was not “recognized” by my birthmother so I do have any information on her. I was placed for adoption at the “Istituto Provinciale di Protezione ed Assistenza all’Infanzia” (IPPAI) orphanage in Milan four days later on September 28 1961. I remained at the IPPAI until August 22, 1962 when I was given to my adoptive parents who took me to Peru where I was raised and lived until age 19. Apparently my birth mother was a young nurse and my birth father was a married man and played sports, perhaps professionally. My adoptive father was French and my adoptive mother is Peruvian.

I too amm looking for my birth family. I was also born in Milan, Italy, but I don't know the hospital name or my birth mother's name. All I have is a passport. The name in my italian passport is Graziella Zirri. I was born on June 15, 1962. I have a paper from the same place that you do. Istituto Provinicale di Protezione ed Assistencia Dell'Infanzia". Both my adoptive parents are Peruvian. I was also taken to Peru, but I left Peru when I was only 6. Then we moved to Brazil where I lived until age 19. My weight at birth shows to be 3050 gr. It shows that I went into the adoption institute on the June 22, 1962 which means i was only 7 days old when I was placed there. I guess that means we were together at that institute for exactly 2 months! I'm not sure when I left the orphanage, but my passport has a delivery date of October 31, 1962. There is a date of arrival to Peru of Nov 2. 1962.

Italia - Peru

Hola Graziella,

Welcome to the "club". You are not alone. There are a few of us that were adopted from Milan and taken to Peru in the early 60's. My understanding is that the IT consulate has a 3-4 page list with names of adoptees.

As coincidence would have it, I just met a man that was born in 1962 with almost exactly the same story as mine (ours). As it turns we both live in the same county (Palm Beach-FL).

I also know of a set of twins (boy and girl) and another girl that were also taken to Peru around '61 and '62. I know about them because my a-mother mentioned them to me. She saw them in the horphanage and later head that they had been adopted by peruvian families. In particar she remembers the little girl because in her words "she had the most beutiful blue eyes". You wouldn't happen to have blue eyes?

I had the opportunity to visit the orphanage in 2004 (it is no longer an orphanage) and the hospital is just across the street. As a matter of fact there is even a tunnel connecting the hospital and what used to be the orphanage through which they transported the babies. Because of this, most likely you were were born in the same hospital as I did.

If you haven't done so yet, I suggest you register to ITALIADOPTION (ITALIADOPTION : Italian American adoptees web community) and FAGEN (http://www.faegn.it/). Let me know if you need more info on these sites.

Good luck in your search. Let's stay connected because we are starting to connect the dots. Hopefully at least one of us gets to find their b-family.

BTW, forgot to ask. Were you recognized at birth? Do you have a copy of your birth certificate?

My sister was also adopted, and supposedly there is a brother, but we don't know what happened to him. I did have blue eyes when I was born. My passport has blue for my eyes, although they are no longer blue. My sister was born on January 19, 1961.

Another site to look at if you have surnames of your adoptive parents is - L'Italia dei Cognomi. I don't know Italian very well, although I learned it when I went to college, but that was very many years ago, and I haven't had the opportunity to use it. I signed up with that yahoo group, but I have to wait till they accept me.
