transracial and unhappy

I've been struggling w/ these issues for years but i've never been able to find an answer. how does a transracial adoptee like me find her heritage????? i liive in a very rural, White community and most african-american culture is no where near me. i've tried internet, meeting new people, etc... i still have that emptyness in me. my parents did not bring me up to be knowledgable about my own people. i'm becoming desperate, does anyone have advice at all?

Well I dont think it is ever too late.

Can you move? Go to an ethnically diverse (or traditionally aa) college?

I think that what you will find is that there as many experiences of "being black" as there are African American people. And that your experience of being raised aa in an all white community is just as "real" as someone who was raised in a ghetto.

Yes, you do have to come to face who you are. Sometimes finding your roots - your birthfamily - can be an important part of that. Have you considered that?
