I'm reposting this message, which is a link in the thread, "identifying with aparents' culture", because I think it might be more far reaching than the initial thread.

Lately, I've been wondering where my heritage pride comes from. Is it because I was born in Poland? Because I spent the first 8 years of my life there? Because we spoke Polish at home, even after coming to the US? Is it because of the traditions my mom maintained, that linked me with Poles in Poland? So I'm in a situation where I can't tell if my pride comes from the facts of my birth, or because of the continuous practice of my culture. Cerainly, I think both play a role, which is why I think our children will need to be exposed to both our cultures (my dh is from El Salvador), one of which will also be their birth culture (that's the plan, anyway: to adopt a child from each of our countries.)

i think the fact that you have pride in the first place is more important than trying to analyzing where and how you got it, no? take confidence that your children will be exposed to both cultures and when the time is right... hopefully they will embrace both. truly tho it is not up to you... all you can do is offer what both you and your husband have...
