Searching for my Colombian birth family

HI,

I would dearly love to find my birth family, but the information I was given by my adopted parents appears to be incorrect. I was born in November 1975; I thought I had been adopted from an orphanage called La Casa de La Madre Y Nino, but they do not seem to have a record of myself or my adoptive parents. Can any one help?

Niki

colombian adoptee

Hi, I was adopted from El Salvador, I had to go to the Civil Registry, in that town, i had my old passport, but still its worth a try if you don't have that. They can look up your family name or just last name and year. Also, people, in the town might remember your family. I also went to the radio station, and they put out a free commercial for me. Any local hotel or restaurant is good too. Also, my adoption papers in Spanish, were mistranslated, like Jan. was actually June. hope this helps, feel free to pm me , good luck, Mara

Adopted from La Casa

Hello,

Niki. I just joined this group and read your message. I was adopted from La Casa in 1978. It is my understanding from my birthparents that all adoptions from that facility are closed adoptions meaning that information is not released to the public or adoptees. I have heard but don't know for sure that one may be able to obtain information about his/her birthparents if the birthparents voluntarily left their information and requested that the adoptee be provided that information if he/she should return and ask for it. However, I don' know for sure. There are a lot of people that appear to have adopted and been adopted from the facility, but I have not really communicated with anyone as of yet. I am going to Bogota this may and would be able to find out more information.

La Casa has a web page at Fundación Casa de la Madre y el niño.
