Smile Any Indian Adoptees

Hello Everyone,

I also stumbled upon this website and have encountered some interesting responses. Are there any Indian adoptees out there? I know very few and would enjoy sharing experiences with many of you out there worldwide!

Sincerely

Hi,
I am not sure if you are talking about East Indian adoptees but that is what I am. I was adopted at 6 from India.
When were you adopted?
Let's talk,
Pushpafl

Love to talk with you!

I was adopted at 6 from calcutta. When were you adopted and from where? Where do you live? It is always so exciting to talk to other adoptees from India! It is a huge step you are taking! Be proud of yourself!

Smile YAY!

Hi!
I wasn't expecting such a fast reply...i was so excited to see your post....well i was adopted from Kerala, India when I was just a couple of months old...I was raised and still live in NY....I was adopted by Indian parents, what about you?....how did you find out you were adopted?...well i know you were a little older than I was....were you raised with siblings?...what's that like?

Thanks for the reassuring words about taking this step...it may seem silly that its such a big step for me to talk about being adopted with someone, let alone someone Indian...But it is not something i ever thought about much, until i got a little older...

hope to hear from you soon!!!

Hi,
I was adopted by Americans. I had 4 siblings all much older than I was so I was not too close to them. I always knew because I was so old when I came here.
I have struggled with many issues with being raised by Americans. But everything happens for a reason.
It is a huge step you are taking and I think it is awesome! Adoption raises so many questions and issues for the adoptee. It is great that you are open to connecting with others who have a similar background.
I came from Calcutta. I am going there in Nov. Have you been to India?

Hi Pushpafl,

Is it going to be your first trip to India since you left?...I have been to India so many times...i actually had to stay there till i was two with my grandparents because i was too sick to travel...but since i moved here i went back almost every year till i was a freshman in college..i havent been back since...it has been a great way to keep in touch with my culture...although its strange because, sometimes i feel like i dont belong here and then when i go there i don't belong either...oh well...

It must have been a different experience for you being raised with an American family....although im sure that brought many positive things...im sorry you arent too close to your siblings...but im still a little jealous...i was raised as an only child...which i definately didnt mind growing up, but now i wish i had someone...

How involved are you with your culture?....are you interested in learning more?...by the way, where do you live now?....im so siked for you to go to Calcutta in Nov....do you know your birth family?....well i wish you all the best...write soon!

I have actually been back 2 times and also I have seen my family. They live in Calcutta. Have you been to Varanasi? I am trying to get some info on going there.
I live in Florida.
I have siblings but I do not even communicate with them so it is like I have no siblings. I really do not have a relationship with them. I feel sort of jealous of my sister because she grew up with my brother. No matter what there is always something to wish for in life it seems!
I love the Indian culture and wish that I could be around it more. I feel so seperate from it.
I also went through the feelings of not feeling like I belong here or there so I totally understand what you are talking about.
I felt I wasn't really Indian nor was I really American!
Great talking with you!

Hi!

I have never been to Varnasi...so i'm afraid i will be of no help...you said you know your b-family?...wow!...do you keep in touch still?....do you know the reason you were given up?...I would absolutely love to know that kind of infromation..the one time i had enough courage to actually ask my mom she kinda freaked out....she started saying all these frantic things and crying and it turned into a complete disaster...at the time she said she never knew any information....which i always found odd...but then as i got older i realized how different adopting a baby from India is than here...and i am slowly but difficultly coming to the realization that i may never know this stuff...so in that way, im jealous of you

I can imagine what that must have felt like not feeling especially close to your siblings..what is the age gap?...is there any reason u arent close other than the age?...have they always been accepting of you?

if u dont mind my asking, how old are u? or what year are u in(if in school)...look forward to talking to u soon!
