How do we get SNAP Approval? or seek to adopt?

we got our foster lic in April. we just received 2 placements but it sounds possibly short term. While we continue to foster, is there anything I can do to get the ball rolling on the SNAP or an adoption?

thank you

Honestly, have noooooo idea how it works...

With us, when we got started almost 4 yrs ago, we said we wanted to foster and maybe adopt. We got the adoption forms to fill out, but when they did our homestudy through the state, they just did the foster care part. We were told when we had a placement we wanted to adopt, they would just update it to the adoption one. So 3 1/2 yrs after we get our first placement, we adopted them. We kept asking what they needed for an adoption study. We were told nothing, the licensing worker just asked info about the kids and that was about it. We were involved w/ a contested adoption so it seems like everything was different from the norm.

Our kids were considered special needs in the fact that they were all over age 2, sib group of 3, and qualified for the iv-e status. Although we had to fight to get that.

We are waiting on TPR for our other 2 foster daughters, and lic worker said again, they would just update our homestudy to say the older 3 were adopted and get some info on the other 2.

We've never to my understanding had anything to do with SNAP.....but again, I'm not sure how normal that is. Other people I've talked to said they had to do specifically an adoption homestudy and it had to be SNAP approved...and this was for foster children in their care for some time.

SO I'm sure I left you just as confused as you were, but that was us.

Here is how we got SNAP approved:
Our caseworker did our foster homestudy then it had to presented at the monthly SNAP meeting for approval. After that we receive a letter saying we were approved and also received our username and password for the website. For more info go to the adoption part of the DCS website to see who is the snap person for your region.
IN.gov: Home then family & health then click adoption.

thank you bookwormmommy! okay found our representive and her email addy. should I contact her or the CM w/our file?

lakin sorry to hear your adoptions haven't been straightforward.

I don't want the adoption to be left behind. we can have 3 placements here and in the last week have been called for 2. which is fine, but, I don't want them to forget the adoption part while the fostering is going on either. and I get the feeling, that might be possible.

SNAP Process

I am a prospective adoptive parent. To adopt from the state or SNAP, you must complete 20 hours of the FAKT classes, plus 6 additional hours for adoption. Afterwards, you complete your packet for a adoption homestudy and your case worker will present you in the SNAP meetings when you are approved. However I wonder where all the children are, because there are not many on the website nor the monthly picture book.

we've done all that except for an adoption homestudy. the CM told us we didn't have that, that our foster file was used and approved at the adoption meetings.
