how does respite work

We're using respite for the first time. We've always taken our fd with us on trips, but the baby is not allowed to go. I asked the caseworker, and she said she would find out but has yet to get back to me.

I don't put the respite days down on my invoice-correct? So, if the respite family will be getting paid for those days, do I still provide all the supplies (formula, diapers, bottles, etc.)?

They covered this in the group that I trained with on the new invoices.

You will fill out the invoice as if your baby was with you for the whole month. Then what you could do is either work out with the respite on payments, either pay them before you get paid by state or after. It just depends on how you both want to do it. Personally, I would pay them beforehand.

Now, if let's say they have the child Monday thru Friday and you pick them up Friday, you would only pay them for the day that you dropped them off but not for the day you picked them up. That's how it works with new placements.

I believe this is pretty accurate but if anyone has heard any different please correct me!

I pretty much agree, but since we are left to our to find care, I don't really see it as "respite". I have tended to pay whatever is normally asked by the provider. Sometimes it has been more than the $25/day and sometimes it has been less.

I have never had a cw help get the respite, unfortunately that does not seem to be how it works.

You SW should help you find a respite provider. I would call and check in with her.
We had to place our current placements in care for a week during a vaction (two weeks after they came to live with us). We paid them half when we dropped the children off and the other half when we picked them up. Many respite providers have been 'stiffed' by FP so they may ask for it all upfront.
I would definetaly send the formula and bottles. Maybe you can ask if they would be willing to provide the diapers and wipes or say you can provide it if it is discounted it from the daily amount you are giving them since that is what the money is for. The formula I would worry they might try and save money by using a different kind.
