Whirlwind weekend
After a few snags getting our homestudy written up and then transferring to a different county we were finally assigned a homefinder on Monday. I made contact with our homefinder Friday afternoon around 4pm and she advised that she was putting us into the system and asked if we wanted to be available to take emergency shelter cases. At 6:30pm that same day we received our first placement, 2 sisters (13 years old and 18months)
. On Saturday we received another sibling group of sister (13 years old) and brother (6 years old). We are licensed for six. My biological children had plans to have friends stay the night prior to receiving the placements so on Saturday night we had 9 children. Everything went off without a hitch but we did have to made several trips to the store to get basics such as enough clothes to get through the weekend, underwear, socks, etc. We were fortunate that someone had given us a brand new pack of size 3 diapers which were the brand and size that the 18 mo wears. Tomorrow will be the most interesting day so far since the baby has a follow up appointment at theChildrens hospital, my biological kids have school and hopefully we will get a better feel for how long the kids will be with us. It was hard not to completely overspend but we haven't spoken to their caseworkers to have enough details to go on. I think any and all of the them will be a good fit long term. The first 2 sisters have been in the system 2 other times. The older sister said she was told by the caseworker that if their mom messed up one more time that was it. She has said several times how happy she is to be with us and hasn't expressed any desire to go home. Is that normal? We have told her several times already that we don't know how long she will be with us, but we will take care of her as long as she's with us. We really adore all of the kids placed with us and would be ok if they were placed with us longterm. I can't wait to talk to the case workers to find out more details to better plan for the holidays. It seem like we waited so long going through the process but now things are happening so fast it's making our heads spin! It's been so exciting but uncertain and I have to admit I do enjoy having a baby in the house again. All this and we haven't received our license in the mail.
