A few questions

Here are a couple things I am wondering. We are in the process of attending our classes and some of this may be covered, but I am curious!

1. The paperwork says each child must have their own bed. Does a pack and play count as a bed for an infant? We have one extra crib but are hoping to get approved for 2. We are only open to birth- 12 months. Would we need 2 cribs if we were open to 2?

2. What about baby-sitters? I am a SAHM, so we won't use daycare. But we belong to a small group at our church that meets every other Wednesday. We have a couple different people that watch the boys for us, but they are not licensed in any way. Can we leave foster kids with someone unlicensed? I have heard of respite, but don't know much about it. Would we use respite?

3. Kind of similar to the above: can we leave foster kids in the church nursery? Ours has a great program and all volunteers have to have background checks done. We would be in the same building, just not the same room. They have a system where they page parents if needed. Would we be able to leave a foster kid there during service?

I am excited and nervous about starting all this and a million questions keep running through my head. I am sure some, if not all, of this will be covered yet in the classes, but I wanted to ask anyway!

Thanks!

Hi Marci- It's good to see you over here I'll try to answer a few of your questions but you'll have to remember that it varies depending on whether you're with an agency/DCS and also just on how they are !LOL!

1. I've been told that pack & plays are not allowed for long term use. However you can use it for short term- like if you get a 2nd placement, you could use it for a week or so til you get a 2nd crib.

2. Ahh the great babysitter debate.. I've heard varying opinions on this one but my licensing agency states that IN policy is that you may leave your foster child w/ anyone you would trust with your own kid for up to 8hrs. Anything over 8hrs (including overnite) must be a licensed foster parent.

3.I dont think you'd have any problems leaving the kids in the church nursery- especially since they are all background checked!

Good luck
