reimbursement
Ok I can never remember what they actually call "payment" to us. Please realize I am NOT in this for the check but.. We have spent $1500 out of our savings on these kids in the month they have been here and we are a bit anxious on when we will recieve our check. We still have money in our savings as we had it built up for when we would start doing foster care. But we would really like to get the money back into savings as soon as possible just incase something comes up. We filled out the paperwork for the direct deposit and we were told checks get sent out on the first of the month. Dh is terrified we are going to get lost in the shuffle and not get a check for months. I am a bit scared of that myself honestly, but not telling him that. So my question is when is the money clearing through checking accounts? If they are no longer mailing checks I would think it would be at the first of the month. I don't know if they have even started doing the direct deposit yet or if they are still mailing checks. Are they still just mailing out checks? I'm sure we should just chill and wait a couple more days and it will show but we tend to worry if our savings is below x amount of money and at the moment it is below x amount of money. I will be so glad when I"m not new at all this and wont have to bug everyone with a million questions.

We are still getting checks mailed to us. Our checks get mailed out on the 1st of the month or the closest business day after that.
Sometimes with your first placement it takes a little longer, as they have to get you put in the "system." If you don't get your check next week then I would call and make sure they put you in the system. bluebird38 |

From what I've been told the state isn't taking over with the direct deposit until Jan '09. Our checks are normally mailed out so that we get them sometime between the 1-5 of the month depending on when it falls. We got ours today

We got ours today as well. But it was only dated from the 2nd-19th. Is that when they cut off to cut the checks? I'm assuming so. I'm also assuming that the 20th to the 31st will be on the next check. Is that how it works? I've got a call into the social worker but she will probably take 2-3 days to call me back. I just don't know if we got cheated out of 11 days or not.

We only get one check per month and it's for the entire previous month?

Yes, the cut off date is early in the month to allow them to get info in computer and checks cut on the first. Many times a child may move late in a month and it takes awhile for it to get keyed in. If they pay everyone through the 30-31st assuming the children were all still placed, they would have to go back later and attempt to get money back from anyone whose child had been reunified or moved etc and that would be SO hard to do. Or they would have to take some out of the next month's check etc and that would get very confusing to everyone.
Our cut-off date is the 25th. So each month we get a check the dates are for the 26th-25th. For instance, we will receive our stipend on or around Monday. It will be for June 26th-July 25th. So I am sure that yours is the same and you will recoup those 11 days next month. And don't feel bad asking money questions because it is hard to not worry about money when you have children placed that are in need of SO much. We have only had one month messed up and it was because we took a weekend trip and our cw keyed in that we left on Friday but forgot to key in that we returned and picked up our FS from respite on Sunday. So we were short 10 days. We called and he apologized and immediately fixed the problem. We didn't receive the money due us til the next month but it all worked out. I am sure the respite family received 10 days too much since it looked like he was in their care that whole time. I am not sure how DCFS recouped it from them but I didn't worry about it as it was their mistake. All things considered, the stipends have always run smoothly for us. Kim

Thanks.. that's what we assumed. I did feel bad asking about money. Glad you all understand its definetly not the money we are after but then again we need it to take care of them. And you are so right they are in need of so much. All 3 of mine came with just the clothes on their backs and one without shoes.

new payment dates?
i am just curious are these dates still accurate in regards to reimburment?
i got my little ones on september 10th and so far have not received a check yet. with them being my first, i admit i way overspent on them because they had so little, and figured i could just replace it with what we got back. i have spoken to the social worker who is telling me it will probably be november before we see our first check, and my concern is that we are running out of money. these days nothing ever feels like its enough, but in my case, i was at least planning to be more prepared before they came. but just like having a kid, things never go as planned. we actually didnt find out we were licensed until AFTER we got the call. to to say it was immediate placement would be an understatement, lol. as far as payment, we were told in marion county the usual reimbursement is the middle of the month. our homefinder told us checks are cut somewhere between the 15th and the 18th and we would get paid shortly after that. i was just wondering because i saw how many people had said they get paid in the beginning of the month, and it made me wonder if it varies from county to county. thanks! |

I'm not sure about your county but I'm in Boone and we always get the check on the first day of the month. I would call and ask your social worker and ask for a more specific day of when to expect your check.

in marion we are paid mid month as you were told. Completely depends on your worker getting info into the system whether you would get the half month if placed mid month or have to wait for it with the full month the following month. You are usually paid for October by mid November-ish.

by the way (for libby)
since you are in marion cty like me, have you gotten your reimbursement this month?
i'm kind of antsy because after two months of scrimping (and slightly spoiling some very cute kids) i am finally tapped out of my savings. i don't want to panic just yet, but i am slightly......fretting, lol. |
