New Forms for per diem??
Have any of you from Indiana received forms to fill out yet... one is W-9, one is bank information for doing automatic deposits of per diem and the last form is optional-- if you want notified by email when the money hits the bank. Auto deposits will be state-wide by January 2009.
I should call the DCS I guess, but this has me a little bugged. Are we going to have to report our per diem as income now? Filling out the W-9 makes me think that. How can it be income when it's supposed to be considered "reimbursement"? What are your thoughts? |

Wow, I haven't heard of this. That would be absurd to count it as income, since most of the money is already spent before we receive it!
Do you foster for a county agency or a private agency? We foster through a private mental health agency, and the form we fill out every month is one with the agency's name on it, so I'm not sure we'll have to do it the new way. Let us know if you find out more.

We are through the county and we also received those papers. I hadn't even thought that we might have to report it as income. I was only thinking that they were wanting to go to direct deposit to save on checks and postage!
I did however think, "Great, now if something gets messed up we'll probably have to go through the state to get it fixed instead of our county office." bluebird38 |

No
You will only have to report your per dium if you have 10 or more fc in your home. It's considered a home bussiness if you have this many children from the state.

I just received the papers today and called our county.
What they said is that since all the payments are going to be coming from the state rather than the local offices the state requires a W9 form filled out. They are not going to tax us even though we're considered "vendors" the state does not tax for adoption or foster parent payments. They basically need it for their record. So no we won't get a 1099 from what I was told. Last edited by kermitdfrog : 06-11-2008 at 09:27 PM. |

That's a relief. Thanks for finding that out. I kept procrastinating on making the phone call. :-/

We also got the W-9 form and on the cover letter with all this it says "Anyone that submits a claim to the State of Indiana for payment is considered a vendor which requires an EIN number (Employee Identification Number) equivalent to a social security number for an individual." along with instructions on how to get an EIN number.
Was anyone else told to get an EIN??

We don't need a EIN # from what I was told. Our social security number is equivelent to the EIN#. We are considered vendors in the states eyes just because they will be cutting the checks but we're not actual "employees" of the state.
