How Long

How long did it take for you guys to get liscensed? We already have an adoptive homestudy that we were told would just need updated for the "space" information as far as kids go. We know we can only have 1 or 2 as we have a 9 month old adopted daughter and could put a child in with her and could have an infant in our room. We have a situation we know of where a baby will be coming into care in June and would like to be able to take that baby but I believe we need to be liscensed first. The baby is a sibling of a friends 3 kids (she has adopted them)

I have contacted DCS and am getting the run around so now I have contacted the childrens bureau and hopefully will get info faster there.

I guess I'm a tad confused. Are you licensed as a foster/adoptive parent and just need to get your # of allowable kids upped? (If so then they can do that fairly quickly! Especially if there is a specific child you need it upped for)

Or did you just have a private adoptive homestudy & need to go thru the foster classes to become foster/adoptive licensed? If that's the case then we took our classes in Aug/Sept and were officially licensed in Nov of that year.

Good luck !I hope you can get the answers you're needing soon!

No we had a state appointed homestudy for our daughters adoption, so we need it updated for fostering.

From what I was told today we are looking at 6 months to be liscensed and at that point would be moving and would have to start all over (differnet county).

So now I'm stuck. We are going to try to figure out how to come up with the money to adopt again.

If you are licensed thru the county vs agency, then it's very easy to move & get your licensed transfered (within the state) with no lapse in licensing.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

From what I understand DCS is the only place that liscenses around us, no agencies do it.

I'm getting the runaround again, any surprise there?

You might try contacting an Agency in Indianapolis called Adult and Child. There is also the Villages which does multiple areas in Indiana. My understanding is those agencies are still doing licensing as well, but as theraputic. Shouldn't really matter which is stated on your license to receive the placement, however timeline could be a problem. In the past you could take the classes that were being offered anywhere, I did part of mine in Tipton County although I lived in Marion - that is where the class was available. Good Luck and let us know what you find out.

DCS is actually the only one that does liscensing. I am on the phone with our case worker now, they do the liscensing then your info is sent out to agencies or "homefinders".
