Question Baby Placements

This probably has already been asked but I didn't see it on here. Are there many babies being placed in foster care in Indiana? I don't mean necessarily foster to adopt. I've been considering asking to be considered for placement of newborns/ babies.

I thought that I had read on here that Indiana doesn't drug test Mom's and babies at the hospitals anymore. However, I'm hoping I'm wrong about that. That seems like a big mistake.

Thanks,

I don't think they test as much as they used to. That wasn't state wide anyway. Marion Co used to all hospitals (or so I've heard) but thats not been happening as much....unless the bio mothers admit to using or they are in the 'look out' list. I have 2 babies, but they are siblings to my older kids and extinuating (sp?) situations.

From what I've been told, hospitals test if you fit their stereotype of a drug user ,admit to drug usage or are acting in a manner that they believe you must be using..

With that said in the past 3yrs I've received 2 newborns. I know of a few others that were removed at my county as well. My county went thru a phase where they were letting the Biomoms keep the baby and doing in home services even if both tested + for drugs, but they seem to have realized that wasn't working and moved back to removing at birth.

Good luck!

I think they are still removing. The daycare for fosterparents at the Children's Bureau is full in the infant room.

I picked up a preemie from Wishard just about 9 weeks ago, still have him.
Got that call 45 minutes after I took my license off hold.

How about you let them know you are willing and see what happens. There are a lot of working Fosterparents that arent' able or willing to take newborns, so IMO those that are have a good chance of getting a placement.

I do work, but THANKS to my good friend, Lakin. . .
I have wonderful care for him while I work.
