we went though a home study. well you have to turn over your life on paper. then they come and visit your house. they check to make sure your home is a safe place. it really is not that bad. alot of fire prevention stuff. check smoke detectors, make sure there is enough. fire extingisures. we have a 2nd and 3rd level so we had to have fire ladders. check the windows to make sure they were safe, stair rails. and a fire escape plan has to be hung, ours is on the fridge.
when they came we just had empty bedrooms, no dressers or beds in them. please keep in mind our home study at that time was for foster only. and they said for our homestudy for our adoption all they would have to do is add something to it in writting and she said that she could have it done in 24 hours? not real sure.
i was so worried about it and it really was nothing. in the begenning i was a freek when i knew someone would be comming, but you really do get over it. now if they come im fine.
you need to rember that some of the houses that these kids come from are beyond our thought, and they dont want to send them to another bad situation. we know another foster family and it is bad to say but i would not let my kids go there it looks pretty bad to me but they are fostering and they always have a ton of kids. and workers are in and out of there all the time.
good luck!
