Christina - Went to WIC
What a depressing place! And a little scary...
We really didn't get as much formula as I thought that we would, but they are giving us a bunch of cereal, more than we really will need or go through, especially since Baby J hates it right now. I keep trying it, and he is still screaming after the second or third spoon. But we've got it now, soI guess that's all that matters. Oh, and I didn't realize we were going to have to go to classes for it!? Hubby says thanks for the push!

Krissy -- You dont have to do classes every time, sometimes you get to just pick up checks (woohoo).. lol I hate those classes, they are such common knowledge but I guess perhaps they help some ppl?! We get 9cans of formula a month with Wic.. When the baby is around 9mos you'll start getting juice along with your cereal and formula.. I have NEVER used all the cereal that they give.. lmao! WHat baby eats 2boxes of cereal a month?? lol! Congrats on getting started.. It does help out some

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's time to for us to go celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How much formula did you get? We get 25 cans of "ready to use" liquid. This is enough for 22-24 days. We are finding that Whyatt is drinking more - so - we will be buying more!!!!!!!! We just went to WIC last week. We are now getting the formula, two bottles of juice and two boxes of infant cereal. Whyatt also does not eat all of his cereal. Thanks for the update Krissy. Anything else you need help with!?!?!?! Tell hubby that he is welcomed!!! Christina |

We get 10 12-ounce cans of powder a month and 2 boxes of cereal. He isn't even eating cereal yet, let alone 2 boxes a month and they know that. So we'll still be buying 1 to 2 24-ounce cans of formula a month...which is better than buying 2 24-ounce cans a week. I think $50 a month is a lot better than $50 a week.
I think a shopping trip is in order...LOL!! We finally got his visitation re-arranged. It's amazing that they haven't been able to call and give them their schedule for the past two weeks, but on the week that there is a case conference, they finally got around to calling with it so we could set something up. And what's even more interesting is that with both of them working 'full time, days', all of the visits are scheduled for weekday mornings (2 @ 9-11:30 and 1 @ 9-12)! Quite a miracle, isn't it?

Foster parents are not supposed to provide formula. If WIC doesn't cover it then you should go talk with your childs Doctor. They will either give you extra cans or write a perscribtion for you to get some free through some other orgnaization. Or if all else fails speak with your social worker and they will have to provide you with it.
Formula is expensive and we've bought our fare share before being told that wasn't our responsibility.....since then....I haven't bought any more!!!

mom2GRLC,
I did not know this. I have asked WIC for more formula and was told no - they couldn't give me anymore vouchers. Thanks for the info. Has anyone from Indiana tried this? See Krissy - I don't know EVERYTHING!!!!! Christina |

Oh my!! WIC has been a godsend to our family. Our daughter was 2 when she was placed with us and was STILL primarily bottle fed (texture aversion).. . With a prescription from our pediatrician, we were able to get 18- 6 packs of pediasure a month (that's nearly $225) plus juice and cereal. And even once our adoption finalized, we were able to continue with WIC. We were told as long as she carries a state medical card, she will qualify until she is 5 (not sure if that's true, but what we were told). Our daughter is now eating more "regular" foods but continues on the pediasure for extra calories. If you are running out of formula every month, talk to your pediatrician. They may be able to write out a prescription to request more provided by WIC...
