Got it today

Well, went to the mailbox and there it was, our license for foster care. What a relief to see that everything is done now. Now the waiting starts for our first placement. I am excited but all in the same time upset because I know that when our phone rings that means a child has been done wrong and they need help. But I could rest knowing that when they do come to our home they will be ever so loved, and safe.

Kim,
We had our homestudy the last week of September. It took a while almost two months before we were licensed. I actually received it today but on the license it shows that the effective date is Nov. 18th. I was just so relieved to have received it.

By the way how are things going with you?

Congratulations Christy.

Nice comment:

"I am excited but all in the same time upset because I know that when our phone rings that means a child has been done wrong and they need help."

Congratulations again!!!!

Thank you Christina. And yes, I can not tell a lie that was what you have said to me and I have instilled it in my head.

I still haven't heard from my cw on the questions yet. It will be a week tomorrow and I don't think that she is in on Saturdays so I will wait to see if she gets back to me next week with the answers.

Again, thank you so much for the advice and all it is very much appreciated.

Christy,

You are a cutie!!!! I am sure that you will let me know when you receive your first placement!!!

This is something that I have told "B" (our former foster daughter that we STILL have a relationship with - she just turned 18 last month)....."Be careful of what you ask for because you might actually receive it!!!!" So, having said this....be prepared!!!!!!

Good luck to you.....I have faith that you and hubby will be good foster parents!!!!

In my case it was wait and then hurry up instead of hurry up and then wait. It took 8 weeks to get my license after the homestudy was complete. Wed afternoon, I got an e-mail saying my license had been signed and I was put into the placement computer. In the next 24 hours, I was offered 6 kids for my two places. I am taking ages 0-2. I got a 2 yr old boy 6 hours after my license was signed and a 2 mo old boy the next day! We are having a great time.

Godmother,

Wow I can't believe only having your license for six hours a child was placed with you. Glad to hear that your having a blast with your two precious boys. Hope it stays like that for you. Good luck and I wish you all the best.

Do you know why it took so long to get your license? We are still waiting on our 2nd homestudy (for us to get things done) and I was hoping we could be licensed soon after! Do you know what the delay was? I know our licensing worker told us that with our age availability (0-8) we'd get calls pretty quickly. She also had people they called for the same day they got their licenses.

Shannon,
Ok this is going to be a long explanation so please bare with me.

At the first homestudy our cw told me to call her right before the last class of our mapp classes which was Oct. 10th. I had called on October 6th and she wasn't in, then I called on Oct. 11th and the girl who answered the phone said that our cw was going to be out for a week or so due to illness and to call back then. So I waited and called her on Oct. 19th which was a Wednesday she said that the following Tues Oct. 24 should work out good for her but she would get back to me on a definite answer. So, I waited didn't hear anything from her. I called back on Monday Oct. 23rd because I wanted to know if she was coming out or not then she told me that she had to catch up on paperwork that she didn't get to when she was sick and she told me not to call her, she would call me when it would be good for her. So once again I waited. Then I got a letter in the mail on November 5th saying that she needed copies of our marriage, mapp class, and cpr certificates. Well, I called her because I had a question and in the conversation she said that she didn't have to have a second homestudy done because she already had all the information that she needed. So, I dropped off the copies and then waited again. On November 17th she emailed me saying that she was about to push the magic button to our finalization of the license but yet she needed three pictures of me and my dh and also needed to know our height. Well, dropped off the pictures and then finally got our license last week. So know we are waiting for the phone to ring.

I think that with her being sick it kind of threw everything back. She I'm sure had a lot on her plate when she came back but I am glad that everything did get accomplished.

Do you have a date already set for the second homestudy? If not how long have you been waiting to hear from her? When was your last homestudy done?

Christy

Well, we still needed to get a few things done. My CPR/first aid class was this past Sat and my DH still needs his. We also need to get our physical's done too. DH's insurance from his new job doesn't kick in until the 19th, so we are waiting for that b/c its way cheaper than without. DH also had to have the FBI clearance with the fingerprints done b/c he hasn't lived in IN for 5 or more years. So other than that we are done. House is 100% ready. Once we get those things done, we can schedule the 2nd visit. So believe me I'm riding him hard to get his stuff done soon! We know it may be Jan though before we get it done.

Woohooo! Good luck and I hope a call comes soon!! I was 'officially' licensed Nov 1st, 2004 and my first call wasn't til Jan 19th, 2005 ! I picked up my newborn at the hospital and she's been here every since! Of course I'm sure I drove DCS crazy calling them all the time reminding them that I was open and wanted a placement LOL!! I hope you get your call soon!

Thank you Kelly! Actually I did get a call earlier this week about a sibling group. My cw called and said there was a sibling group and she at the time didn't have much details about the situation but either she or the sw (who I am guessing was the one on call) would call me back with more information. I was excited and started putting all my p's and q's in a row. Called my dh at work and told him, then I called my sister to let her know that I might need her for questions (she has four kids, and I am using her as my most important support system buddies). So, I got a call back saying that they didn't need to place the children at this time but they appreciated us being opened for them. I know everything happens for a reason so I am still waiting for now I can say my second call.
