How long from time of licensing to first placement?

Hello All!

We just had a home visit from our licensing/case worker this past Monday, and she said that she hopes to have us licensed by the end of the month. She's really pushing hard for us to do true foster care, even though she knows that our ultimate goal is adoption. So I was wondering if I could take a little poll, and see how long the wait was for everyone, between licensing and first placement- even if your goal is not adoption, just fostering.

Thanks in advance!

Thumbs up first placement

We were licensed the same day we got our first placement.

We had taken our classes in the summer, and finalizing our paper work and things...we were never officially licensed, until they needed a foster home, then evything was sped up. Our County office got a call from a neighboring County needing a Foster Home, so they called us, and gave us temporary license until our finalization was completed.

I guess that's one way to do it!!

Good Luck!

Classes in July 2004, licensed Aug, 2004, no placement, yet. BUT we were licensed by a private agency, and we've since learned that the only way for the county to place with you is if the county does your home study. UNLESS they can't find any of their own families to take a child--then they'll send the child's case to a private agency to manage (with one of their own families as the foster home).

We were also only willing to take "legal risk" children (likely to terminate), so that surely has something to do with our long wait.
