Does anyone know if, in 1970, it was possible to adopt a child in the same county (Elkhart) that the birthmother lived in? I read somewhere that you had to live in another county but it was a different year.

I was adopted in 1973, and my adoptive parents lived in another county from the birth mom. If I remember right my mom said, they had to be in another county.

I am not sure about that... I was born in Albuquerque New Mexico, so this maybe the loophole, but I was placed in foster home in Anderson Indiana and when I was adopted, my aparents lived in Elwood. One of few things that my aparents did share with me was the fact that they were told to keep me away from downtown Anderson for a few years because I might be recognized.

Thats interesting because when I was an adult before I met my birth mom.....she waited on us at a restaurant but, I didn't know she was my birth mom hehe small world..

Yeah, my whole life has been that way one strange thing after another. When I found my birth father...he told me to sit down he had something to tell me.....I had a baby sister...Im thinking like 16 or something 18...Nope 2 1/2.......Now she is 5 1/2 and Im 32.....the kicker is her mother is younger than I am.......
