Has anyone been referred to the Oaklawn Psychiatric Center in Elkhart to find their birthfamily? When I called the welfare department for Elkhart they gave me a number for a lady at OPC and they said she does all their research for adoptions. I called the contact at OPC (I will omit her name for the time being) over 10 months ago, gave her all of my information, and was told she would act as the intermediary. I have had very little contact with her since then (she doesnt seem to be in the office much and rarely replies to emails). Supposedly, it is a free search that the state provides. The last I spoke to her, she told me that she had gone through the files on micro-film and found all the names she needed. She said it would take a few more weeks to make contact and she would call or write to me when she found out something. That was 4 months ago and I haven't been in contact with her since despite tons of voicemails and emails that aren't returned.

Has anyone had this happen to them? I am still doing my own research but it is compounded by living in Florida and not being able to do the foot work myself. I'm just wondering if this is a scam or a system that doesn't really work anyway.
